Bands Over The Years

Free Spirit
Circa 1980-1981

Free Spirit has been on the music scene since the 1970s playing good old fashioned rock ´n´ roll. The group made it to the big time in 1975 playing on CBS´ "Stars of Tomorrow" show.   I was fortunate enough to cross paths with the originator of the band Jim Wirth somewhere around 1979.  I would have been 16 at the time, as I graduated in 1981.

We played mostly weddings and private parties and always had a good time!  Jim was nice enough to forward me some video that features:

  • Jim Wirth - Lead Vocals / Guitar

  • John Morgan - Bass / Vocals

  • Scott Marion - Drums / Vocals

Jim and Free Spirit  continue to play shows today.  You can learn more by visiting www.JimWirth.com and www.TheFreeSpiritBand.com

Backwoods Band
Circa 1982

Playing "Modern" and Traditional country favorites, this band had strong vocal ability.  While mainly a cover band, the band spent time laying down tracks to several original tunes, which were featured on local AM/FM radio. The lineup shown included:

There were other variations on this group that included keyboards, second guitar, or Acoustic Front Man.

Jam Transfer
Circa 1989 thru 1991

Jam Transfer was my first rock band playing
cover songs from Zeppelin, Deep Purple,
and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Over time, we
blended Top 40 rock with our arsenal of
Classic Rock favorites and played
mainly in SE Michigan.

  • Sam Bost - Bass / Vocals

  • Tim Cousino - Guitar / Vocals

  • Scott Marion - Drums / Vocals

Each of us took our turns singing and all of us learned a lot about working together and playing together.

Triple Threat
Circa 1991 thru 1995

Break Free
Out of Time
Rebel Soul

Triple Threat, featuring the same lineup as above, added a Front man to handle the lead vocals, allowing the band to concentrate on their instruments, provide strong backup vocals, and entertain.  In 90' and 91', Triple Threat competed in the Ted Nugent WhipLash Bash contest sponsored by WRIF-FM and reached the finals in 92'.  They also placed first as Best Up & Coming band in a live competition in Toledo, Ohio sponsored by WIOT-FM that same year.

Triple Threat released an original compilation called  "We Ain't Here To Dance" in the fall  of 1992, getting local airplay, which provided the opportunity to open for national acts in the process.

Drivin' Wheel

Kind of like "Jam Transfer" reunites, but with  a new name.  This project actually started out with 5 guys...Mike on guitar and Ken Stewart from Triple Threat on vocals.  After a few months and  few gigs, we just got comfortable doing the power trio music again.

This iteration of the band focused on the "Blues Rooted Rock" artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, and Robin Trower.
